One VF: Brand Collaborations that Push the Boundaries of Design

March 11, 2016

One is the global surf lifestyle leader, the other a brand that is quintessentially Americana. Together, they make for a compelling collaboration that is pushing the boundaries of design.

Famous for its denim “dungarees,” Lee® was founded in Salina, Kansas, in 1889. Conversely, Reef® is rooted in California’s surf culture and launched in 1984, making it a relatively new addition to the lifestyle apparel world.

The Reef x H.D. Lee Shelter Supply Collection combines the timeless appeal of Lee’s denim jeans with practical, surf travel pieces from Reef. Targeting high-end consumers who value both heritage and style, this seven-piece capsule collection is available on Reef.com and through a limited release at select retailers.

While the two brands might appear to be targeting different consumer segments, the partnership, in reality, should surprise no one. VF has made collaboration among its brands a focus for the company, and that is paying off in some fascinating, if unexpected, collaborations.

The Lee-Reef collaboration follows a partnership between Vans® and The North Face®, a pair of companies that both launched in 1966.

Partnering Vans’ mantra of “Off The Wall” coupled with The North Face brand’s sentiment of “Never Stop Exploring” pushed the design boundaries of heritage Vans silhouettes with progressive weatherized features and proprietary The North Face technologies. The seven-piece offering in the Vault by Vans x The North Face collection includes three installments of the Vans Sk8‐Hi MTE LX and Desert Chukka MTE LX, as well as a collaborative execution of The North Face Nuptse jacket.

These brand partnerships are a result of VF’s ‘One VF’ and innovation initiatives – ensuring collaboration among VF brands while providing compelling, innovative products for consumers. The company understands what makes its brands unique, how the brands’ styles complement one another and how to make products that transcend the traditional boundaries of design.

The company is committed to delivering new products and experiences that consistently delight consumers – including new design, production and distribution approaches. These cross-brand collaborations among some of VF’s largest brands are recent examples of these efforts.
