VF Corporation Supports Bold U.S. Policy Action to Mitigate Climate Change

The global climate crisis is one of the most significant issues facing humanity. The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) report clearly articulates that climate change is widespread and rapidly intensifying with some trends now irreversible. Referring to climate change as a “code red for humanity”, the IPPC states the report is a call to action for people, businesses and government to address the threat of global warming to both people and the planet.

The United States can lead the change necessary to combat climate change. We support and encourage actions by the United States government to address climate change through:

  • Greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the U.S., an ambitious nationally determined contribution (NDC)
  • Significant investments to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, regenerative agriculture practices, clean transportation and grid modernization
  • Efforts to combat the impacts of climate change in impacted communities across the U.S.

We believe market-based and bold policy-driven solutions are needed to drive the type of systemic change to combat the negative impacts of the climate crisis and help the U.S. achieve its 2050 Net Zero goal.

In the meantime, VF is taking its own bold steps to mitigate our impacts on the planet.

In 2019, VF set ambitious science-based targets (SBTs), approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We commit to do our part to help reduce emissions to limit global temperature rise to 1.5ºC within our Scope 1 and 2 emissions (our direct and indirect emissions), and to well below 2ºC within our Scope 3 emissions (all other indirect emissions in our value chain). To reach our goals, we will source 100% of our electricity from renewable sources by the end of FY26 for our owned and operated facilities, increase uptake of materials that originate from regenerative, recycled or responsibly sourced renewable sources, advance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects throughout our supply chain and accelerate other innovations across our business.

At VF, we recognize our role in reducing our emissions and championing efforts for collaborative, coordinated climate action. VF is committed to work across our industry, civil society and governments to collaborate for scale and impact to meet the collective 1.5 degree ambition.
