VF Named to 3BL’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for 2020

VF earns its highest rankings to date, including No. 33 overall and No. 2 in Consumer Durables & Apparel.

VF was named to 3BL’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for its leadership in environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Assessed among 1,000 of the largest public U.S. companies, we ranked No. 33 overall and No. 2 out of 27 in the Consumer Durable & Apparel category.

We also earned top 100 rankings in the following categories:

  • No. 15 in Human Rights
  • No. 54 in Employee Relations
  • No. 62 in Stakeholders and Society
  • No. 156 in ESG performance

“We are honored to be recognized by 3BL for our commitment and hard work around ESG criteria and our willingness to be transparent about where we are and where we want to go,” said Peter Higgins, VF Vice President Responsible Sourcing. “At VF, we understand that it is critically important to be thoughtful about not only environmental health and the governance of our business, but also the moral issues of racial justice, inclusivity, and diversity. We have accomplished a lot, as this recognition reinforces, but we know there is still much more to do.”

VF’s work in ESG is driven by the company’s Made for Change sustainability and responsibility strategy, which places value on using our diverse skills, experiences, and scale to make the world a better place.

In 2019, VF launched its new science-based targets, among the most ambitious in the industry, which are in line with meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. Working in partnership with the Carbon Trust, the targets were determined after an intensive two-year process of data modeling our operations. For details about VF targets, click here.

Having a steadfast commitment to upholding human rights, particularly worker rights, VF strives to offer a dignified workplace. Women make up 80% of our industry’s workforce, which is why VF is also committed to protecting and promoting women’s rights in the workplace.

3BL began publishing its 100 Best Corporate Citizens list in 1999 as ESG metrics grew more important to consumers looking for transparency from companies in the areas of carbon emissions, water use, diversity in the workplace, and boardrooms.

David Armon, CEO of 3BL Media, said companies are increasingly finding it necessary to embrace ESG because not only does the criteria ultimately affect profitability, consumers are now looking to corporations to lead on these critical issues.

“U.S. corporate leadership matters more than ever to drive progress despite government gridlock around environmental and social topics like climate change,” David recently told Triple Pundit. “Each year, we measure the increasingly competitive progress of brands on ESG topics. Transparency and public commitments make corporate responsibility and sustainability programs stronger. We congratulate those honored on this year’s ranking for their commitment to the triple bottom line.”
